India's most successful Test captain and batting icon Kohli (Virat Kohli Records) won 9 matches as the captain of the Indian Test team in 2016.
Kohli-led Team India was undefeated in the entire 2016 season.
Former captains Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, Michael Vaughan, Steve Waugh and Clive Lloyd have also achieved nine Test victories in a calendar year.

Under the leadership of Stokes, England has won nine or more Test matches (PAK vs ENG) in a single year for the first time since 2010.
England, captained by Stokes, handed Pakistan their first home whitewash in the longest format of the game.
In the Test match between the two teams in Karachi, youngster Harry Brook scored a match-winning century (111), while Rehan Ahmed became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul in Test cricket.
With the help of Brook and Ahmed's innings, England registered a resounding 8-wicket win over Pakistan in the third Test.
Match winner Brooke was adjudged Player of the Series.
