The head coach of the Spanish national football team, Luis Enrique, is leaving his position after a failed performance at

the 2022 World Cup

This was reported on the official website of the Spanish Football Federation. 

"The sports management of the Federation submitted a report to the president stating that a new phase must begin for the Spanish national football team in order to continue the progress made in recent years thanks to the work done by Luis Enrique and his coaching staff," the statement said.

Enrique will be replaced by Luis de la Fuente.

For the past 9 years, he has coached the youth national teams of Spain.

Under his leadership, the teams won Euro-2015 U-19 and Euro-2019 U-21.

The specialist also led the Olympic team at the 2020 Games, which then won silver awards.

A full-fledged contract was signed with the 61-year-old specialist, the terms of which are not specified.
