The 2022 FIFA World Cup

will start in Qatar on November 20

.

This will be the 22nd world football championship in history.

TSN Prosport tells all the most important things you should know about the upcoming World Cup.

When and where will the 2022 World Cup take place

The final part of the 2022 World Cup is scheduled from November 20 to December 18 in Qatar.

Qatar won the fight for the right to host the 2022 World Cup in Australia, Japan, South Korea and the USA.

On December 2, 2010, the results of a secret vote in the FIFA executive committee were announced in Zurich, according to which Qatar became the host of the tournament.

For the first time in history, the World Cup will be held in the Middle East.

Also, this World Championship will be the first to be held not in summer, but in autumn and winter.

This is due to the weather conditions in the host country, where the air temperature in June - July reaches over 40 degrees Celsius.

The matches of the planetary championship will be hosted by eight stadiums in five cities - Doha, Lusail, Er-Rayyan, El-Haury and El-Wakry.

To withstand the intense heat, football arenas are equipped with special air cooling systems that maintain a temperature of no higher than +27 °C.

In the first match of the 2022 World Cup, the national team of the host country will meet with Ecuador on November 20.

Initially, the World Cup was planned to start with a duel between Senegal and the Netherlands, but

FIFA made a change to the calendar

due to Qatar's desire to play the opening match, as the hosts of the tournament have traditionally done since 2006.

The final match of the 2022 World Cup will be played on December 18 at the National Stadium in Lusail, which has a capacity of 80,000 spectators.

Participants and groups of the 2022 World Cup

32 national teams will take part in the tournament, which are divided into 8 groups of four teams each.

The two best teams from each quartet will advance to the playoffs.

It should be noted that this will be the last world championship with 32 teams.

Already at the next World Cup, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the USA in 2026, the number of participants will increase to 48 national teams.

The draw for

The national team of Ukraine will not play at the 2022 World Cup

We will remind, the national team of Ukraine could not make it to the World Cup in Qatar.

In the selection for the world championship, "blue-yellow" took second place in the group, leaving the French ahead.

Therefore, in the head-to-head matches for the right to go to the 2022 World Cup, Oleksandr Petrakov's wards had to beat Scotland and Wales.

In the semi-final of the qualification playoff, the Ukrainians

defeated the

Scots (1:3), but in the decisive match for a ticket to the World Cup, our team

lost to

the Welsh (0:1).

Russia was kicked out of the playoffs for the 2022 World Cup

Due to the full-scale war that the Russian Federation, with the support of Belarus, started against Ukraine, the Russian national team was

disqualified from the playoffs for the 2022 World Cup

.

The team of the aggressor country was supposed to play against Poland in the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup qualification playoffs, but FIFA awarded the Russians a technical defeat in this match.

Then the Poles beat Sweden in the playoff final and qualified for the World Cup.
