After the match, 35-year-old Chen Baizhong highly affirmed Wu Yichun's perseverance over the years, forging ahead from setbacks and winning the first championship of Sanda fighting in his career is well deserved.
"In order to make a living, in addition to serving as a teaching assistant in the martial arts hall, he usually works part-time as a delivery man, and works as a car salesman. He has three jobs, and he has not been knocked down by the trivialities of life. He is the best model for interpreting martial arts."
Wu Yichun's hobby of martial arts, just like work, is inclusive and unambiguous.
He started from taekwondo, and later switched to Taiji and Sanda fighting, from which he realized the profoundness and different realms of martial arts.
"The more lethal the sport, the more I like it. I even fought a high-risk fight with only braces and crotch guards, and I almost got my nose broken because of it."
The 23-year-old Wu Yichun considers himself a problem student during his adolescence, and resorts to violence at every turn, but after coming into contact with Sanda fighting, he seems to have met redemption and returned to the right path.
"I used to be very impulsive and often conflicted with people. Sanda fighting that gave me a violent impression made me even more incredible without medicine. Maybe because there are various ways to attack opponents in the arena, there are more things to see in the arena. In terms of perspective, I learned to look at things from the other side’s point of view, and I lost my anger, and as I got older, I haven’t had a fight since then.”
Wu Yichun said that the main routine of Sanda fighting is "distant and close fighting". It pays attention to the unity of fists and legs and close combat. It must be developed in a balanced way to be a first-class fighter.
"My wrestling skills are weak, and I rely more on punches and legs to attack. There is still a lot of room for improvement."
Peng Tailin, chairman of the Master Sports Association of the Republic of China, said that Sanda fighting can also use the concepts of karate and taekwondo to increase the "type" competition in the middle-aged and elderly sports population.
"We will move towards the concept of shape and develop a sports population suitable for middle-aged and elderly people over the age of 35 or 40, hoping to catch up with next year's events."
Peng Tailin, chairman of the Master Sports Association of the Republic of China, presented the general spiritual trophy to Fuxing National Primary and Secondary School in Miaoli County, and Xu Yongke, the head coach of Sanda, received the award.
