Some Arsenal fans are not happy with the fourth official's reaction to Manchester United's first goal in their Premier League game at Old Trafford.

It was a game full of controversial decisions.

In the first half, Gabriel Martinellt had a goal disallowed after VAR instructed referee Paul Tierney to consult the pitch monitor.

And to the disappointment of many Gunners supporters, the goal was eventually disallowed after Tierney adjudged Martin Odegaard to have fouled Christian Eriksen in the build-up to the action.

Then, against the run of play, Erik ten Hag's side went ahead in the 35th minute when debutant Antony beat Aaron Ramsdalen.

Moments later and the cameras panned to the Manchester United manager, who could be seen talking to the fourth official.

Arsenal fans were far from happy with the interaction, with some pointing out that the official looked 'really pleased' after pointing out Paul Tierney's decision to play forward in front of goal.

Ten Hag also put his hand on the official's shoulder;

another move that brought chatter among supporters.

One fan commented on the incident on social media, saying: "They've been talking all game like mates", while another wrote: "Ten Hag goes to the fourth official after United's goal and he's smiling like it's Christmas at least try to hide your prejudices”.

A third wrote: “I was wondering if anyone got this.

You would swear that the official is part of the coaching staff."

However, a large number of fans had a different opinion on the matter.

One fan commented: "They're talking about the edge, why are you trying to invent something out of nothing."

A second said: “I have to be honest here.

The ref played a great advantage and maybe that's what he's smiling about," while another commented: "In fairness he's probably supporting Tierney by playing the advantage instead of celebrating the goal."

Arsenal equalized through Bukayo Saka in the second half, but despite dominating possession for long periods, a Marcus Rashford strike sealed all three points for United, who moved up to fifth after claiming their fourth straight win.
