Malmo striker Mohamed Buya Turay could not attend his wedding after the club asked him to join the squad earlier for the preparation phase.

The 27-year-old has signed for Swedish club Malmo after spending spells in the Chinese Super League at Hebei China Fortune and Henan Songshan Longmen.

The transfer was confirmed by Malmo on 22 July, while his wedding ceremony in Sierra Leone took place on 21 July.

Malmo wanted him to bond more quickly with his teammates and because he was unable to be in two places at once, Turay had to send his brother to take his place for his wedding to his girlfriend Suad Baydoun .

Turay posted three photos of himself and his wife on social media, but confirmed that those photos were taken before the wedding.

He hasn't been with his wife since he got married, but hopes for a honeymoon later.

“We got married on July 21 in Sierra Leone.

But I wasn't there because Malmö asked me to come here earlier.

We took the pictures beforehand.

So it looks like I was there, but I wasn't.

My brother had to represent me at the wedding."

"But I'll try to get him to Sweden and Malmö now so he's close to me.

She will live here with me," Turay told Afton Bladet.

Turay made his Europa League debut for Malmo on Thursday.

He has experience in Sweden, having won the Allsvenskan in 2019 while on loan at Djurgårdens IF, where he was also the league's top scorer.

Turay has a young daughter from a previous relationship.
