Mirabai Chanu's family celebrated by performing traditional dance

The family members of Mirabai Chanu, who won India's first gold medal

in the Commonwealth Games 2022, are also very happy.

Such was the atmosphere that


the residents of Chanu's native village Nongpoh Kakching in Imphal East district were glued to the television set on Saturday night and as soon as they were confirmed to have won the gold medal, they jumped with joy.

Her mother Tombi Devi said that she could not sleep the night before the competition and was praying for her daughter's victory.

He said, "I am very proud of him, we were up till late night to see his match.

Now his sisters, relatives and neighbors are celebrating with the tricolor and performing the traditional Thabal Chongba dance.


Olympic medalist Chanu gave India its first gold medal of these Games with a record breaking performance.

He made a new record of total weight with his strong performance in these games with clean and jerk.

Chanu lifted a total of 201 kg (88 kg and 113 kg) in the women's 49 kg event.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that he is very proud of the 'superstar daughter' of Manipur.

He said, "Nothing can be a better feeling than seeing your tricolor flying high on the world stage.

The whole country is proud of you Mirabai.
