Mirabai Chanu Wins India's First Gold as

expected, dominated the women's 49kg event of the Commonwealth Games weightlifting event here on Saturday to retain her title and win India's first gold medal of the Birmingham Games.

Olympic silver medalist Chanu dominated the Commonwealth Games by lifting a total of 201 kg (88 kg and 113 kg).

Fans and Indian people on social media reacted to it by tweeting after Mirabai Chanu won the gold.

Be it sportspersons or the President of India, everyone reacted on seeing Mirabai's awesomeness by tweeting and expressed their feelings, after Mirabai won the gold on social media, it seemed as if the whole country was dancing.

Let us tell you that Mauritius's Marie Hanitra Roylya Ranivosoa finished second behind Chanu by lifting a total of 172 kg, while Canada's Hanna Kaminsky won the bronze medal by lifting 171 kg.

Chanu broke Commonwealth Championship and Commonwealth Games records in the snatch category.

He also set new records in clean and jerk and total weight.

The 27-year-old Chanu, a strong contender for the title in her weight category, started off with a lift of 80kg in snatch and 105kg in cleave and jerk.

However, he changed the weight of the first attempt to 84 kg.

Chanu entered the competition with a personal best of 88kg and a world record of 119kg in clean and jerk with an overall best of 207kg.
