Annu Rani qualified for the final

New Delhi:

India's javelin thrower Annu Rani qualified for the finals of the World Athletics Championships with a throw of 59.60m in her last attempt in Eugene on Thursday.

Annu was in danger of being dropped early as her first attempt was 'fouled' while in her second attempt she could only throw the javelin up to 55.35 metres.

In the end, she managed to throw the 59.60m javelin which was enough to make it to the finals.

She finished fifth in the Group B qualification round and made it to the finals on the basis of her best effort of eighth in both the groups.

The 29-year-old national record holder could not reach 60m but will have a chance to improve her performance in Saturday's finals.

His personal best of the season is 63.82 metres.

The best performers of 62.50 meters or 12 in the two categories made it to the finals.

Only three contestants managed to achieve the automatic qualifying mark of 62.50 metres.

Annu, who is participating for the third time in the World Championship, has qualified for the finals of this competition for the second time in a row.

She finished eighth in the final with a best throw of 61.12m at the last World Championships in Doha in 2019.

Meanwhile, in the women's 5000m, Parul Chaudhary failed to make it to the semi-finals in heat number two with a timing of 15:54.03s to finish 17th and 31st overall.

Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will compete in Group A of the men's javelin throw qualification round on Friday (5:35 am IST).

Tokyo Games silver medalist Jakub Waldech (Czech Republic) and London Olympics 2012 gold medalist Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago) will also be in their group.

The final will be on Sunday.
