Spanish Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso set a new record after surpassing his former rival Michael Schumacher in length at the racetrack.

Alonso became the driver with the most appearances in Formula 1 after being present at the race for the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan on Sunday in the streets of Baku.

The 40-year-old Spaniard is still excellent and very competitive in his Alipne car.

Alonso has been racing for more than 20 years and after a weekend of racing in Azerbaijan, namely qualifying for last Saturday's race, he became the longest-serving driver in Formula 1 history.

He thus broke Schumacher's record of 21 years and three months, while Alonso was present in the "fastest circus in the world" for 21 years, three months and eight days.

It is interesting that no current driver other than Alonso is in the Top 10 when it comes to the list of those with the longest tenure in Formula 1.

Only Lewis Hamilton is close to joining this chosen company.

Recall, Alonso finished Sunday's race in Azerbaijan in seventh place and is currently 11th in the drivers' standings with 16 points.
