A Class 10 student in Latur, Maharashtra, appeared for his board exams on Friday, hours after performing the last rites of his father, for which he is being praised all around.

An official said that Rushikesh's father Ramnath Puri died suddenly on Thursday evening in his native village Dhalegaon in Ahmedpur tehsil.

"Rushikesh lives with his maternal uncle in Bori-Salgara village of Latur tehsil as he studies in Rajiv Gandhi Vidyalaya, while his examination center was at Zilla Parishad Secondary School in Bori village," the officer said.

He said, "On receiving information about his father's death on Thursday evening, Rushikesh went to Dhalegaon village. The last rites were performed on Friday morning. Since Rushikesh's examination center was 100 kilometers away from Dhalegaon and he could not reach there, Latur Divisional Board Sudhakar Telang, Chairman, and Group Education Officer, Babanrao Dhokde, ensured that he appeared for the examination in the village itself."

The officer said that Rushikesh was praised by everyone for the determination he showed in appearing for the examination despite losing his father.
