A gunman shot dead four people in northern Germany, DPA reported, adding that according to information from the police and the prosecutor's office, the suspect surrendered.

The tragedy took place in the district of Rothenburg, in the province of Lower Saxony.

The suspect in the murders is a serviceman from the German army.

A child was among the victims who were found this morning.

There are two crime scenes - one is in a remote house in the village of Vestefezede in the municipality of Sesel, and the other is in a residential building in the municipality of Bothel.

The suspected perpetrator of the murders surrendered after the attacks last night and was arrested, investigators said, quoted by DPA.

Police said a domestic dispute "cannot be ruled out" as a possible motive for the crime.

The investigation is being conducted by a large police team, BTA points out.
