A horrific bus accident has occurred in the West African country Mali.

31 people have been confirmed dead in this accident.

At least 31 people were killed when a bus fell off a river bridge near the western city of Keniba in Mali on Tuesday, the transport ministry said.

It said that the bus was going to Burkina Faso.

The accident occurred at about 17:00 (5pm) local time, it said, adding that the victims also included Malians and nationals from elsewhere in the West African subregion.

The Transport Ministry said that the bus driver had lost control, due to which the bus accident occurred.
