Bulgaria's population will decrease by nearly 800 thousand people for the period between 2013 and 2022, Dnes.bg reported, referring to data from the Statistical Handbook "Demography, Economy and Social Security" of the National Insurance Institute for 2022.

In 2013, there were nearly 66,600 live births in our country, in 2022 there will be 10,000 less.

Almost half of the children were born to mothers between the ages of 25 and 34.

In 2013, the number of Bulgarians who died was 104,000. Their number increases every year, as at the peak at the height of the Covid crisis - reaching 149,000 in 2021, and at the end of 2022 - 119,000.

For the decade, the natural increase grew from -37,700 to -6,2200. The birth rate fell from 9.2 per 1,000 people of the population to 8.8.

The number of insured persons increased by 64,000 during the period.

The number of pensioners decreased by nearly 160,000.

Nearly 9 billion were the expenses in the budget of the State Social Security in 2013. In 2022, they will already exceed 18 billion BGN.
