Dutch far-right leader Geert Wilders said that the Netherlands was a "European fool" because it accepted too many Ukrainian refugees.

This is reported by Reuters.

The publication noted that Wilders won the largest number of seats in the parliament in the elections three months ago, but still failed to form a new coalition government.

The politician opposes the continuation of military aid to Ukraine, arguing that

the Netherlands should keep its weapons to protect itself.

This position is one of several issues that divide his far-right Freedom Party and potential coalition partners.

Outgoing Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said at the weekend that his country's support for Ukraine is guaranteed for the long term because Wilders will not be able to find a single coalition partner willing to back his plans to cut aid.

In his post on the Web, Wilders responded to an article in the Dutch daily newspaper Telegraaf, which says that the central registration point for Ukrainian refugees is reaching capacity. A local official told the newspaper that this is mainly due to the influx of Ukrainian men coming from other EU member states in search of work, medical care or family reunification.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine almost two years ago, more than 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in the Netherlands. According to the temporary protection mechanism of the European Union, Ukrainian refugees have the right to travel to EU countries to live and work in any member state at least until March 2025.

Note that Ukraine will receive F-16 fighter jets from the Netherlands in 2024. It is already known when they will be ready for transmission, but this information is still closed.
