The beginning of the Munich Security Conference was set in 1963 as a platform with about 60 participants from the Western Bloc to discuss issues in the field of security policy and continued its existence even after the end of the Cold War.

The purpose of the conference is to help prevent another major war and resolve regional conflicts. After 1999, it became the largest independent world forum of its kind and annually gathers around 600 participants, adds Ukrinform.
