According to him, last year five communities of the Rivne region were given a subsidy for the creation of anti-tank ditches and the purchase of blyoks, tetrahedrons and gabions (fortification fence. — RS).

The head of the Rivne region emphasized that this year the work on border protection will continue.

The state border between Belarus and Ukraine is 1,084.2 km, of which 758.3 km is on land, 325.9 km is on water (along the Dnieper, Sozh and Pripyat rivers) and about 120 km is in the exclusion zone near the Chernobyl NPP.

The territory near the state border is difficult to navigate, large areas are covered with dense forests, swamps, lakes and a branched network of reclamation canals, most of which have not been in operation for a long time.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the leadership of Belarus has supported Russia's aggression against Ukraine and allowed the use of military infrastructure and airspace for the invasion of the Russian army and shelling of peaceful cities in Ukraine, which killed tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians.

At the end of February 2023, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved changes to the legislation on the protection of the state border, which provide for an increase in the area of ​​border strips on the borders with Belarus and Russia to 2 kilometers, and also legalize the already built additional fortification structures.

Earlier, the authorities of the Rivne region announced that the entire perimeter of the border with Belarus would be mined and two defense lines would be erected. The length of the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in the Rivne region is 229 km.
