You can enroll with iris scan if you don't have fingerprint

New Delhi:

A person eligible for Aadhaar can enrol using iris scan if fingerprints are not available, the government said on Saturday. The statement came after Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar ensured the nomination of a woman, Joseimol P Jose, in Kerala. The woman could not enrol for Aadhaar as she did not have fingers.

According to the statement, a team of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) met Jose, a resident of Kumarakom in Kerala's Kottayam district, at her residence the same day and prepared her Aadhaar number.

Chandrasekhar said all Aadhaar Seva Kendras have been asked to issue Aadhaar to others with blurred fingerprints or similar disabilities by taking alternative biometrics.

"A person who is eligible for Aadhaar but unable to give fingerprints can enroll using only iris scan. Similarly, an eligible person whose iris could not be taken due to any reason can enroll using his/her fingerprint only."

The name, gender, address, date of birth of a person who is unable to provide both finger and iris biometrics are matched with the available biometrics, it said.
