"It is with deep sorrow and heartbreak that we announce the murder of Sahar Baruch, 25, who was kidnapped from his home by Hamas terrorists on October 7," Be'eri, a kibbutz where Baruch lived, and the headquarters of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a joint statement.

According to the statement, his grandmother and brother were killed in the Hamas attack.

The armed wing of the Islamist Hamas movement, the Izeddine al-Qassam brigades, posted a video yesterday that initially showed Baruch 25 alive. At the end of the video, a bloodied corpse is visible. Izeddine al-Qassam said he was killed during an Israeli attempt to rescue the hostages.

The death toll in Gaza is now 17,487.

Israeli Defense Forces (SAHAL) spokesman Daniel Hagari said two Israeli soldiers were seriously injured during a hostage rescue operation.

"In this operation, we have not saved a single hostage," he said.
