Two men have been sentenced to life in prison after the Masasi District Court in the Morogoro region convicted them of rape.
Giving the statement to reporters in the region, the Commander of the Arusha Regional Police Force (ACP), Necodemus Katembo said the suspects were residents of the village of Makulani in the district where they had committed the incident at different times.
He named the suspects as Omari Salumu, 70, who on November 22, 2023 was sentenced to life in prison for raping a six-year-old child.
The suspect committed the offence on November 17, 2023 at 5:00am in the village where he was arrested and taken to the police station in the district.
Another suspect is Emmanuel Dastan, 32, who was sentenced to prison by the court on November 17, 2023 for raping a six-year-old child (a kindergarten student at a primary school) where they are all residents of the village.
The incident took place around 9:30 p.m. when the suspect was arrested and taken to the police station.
"The police force calls on all citizens in the Morogoro region to continue to cooperate with the police force to stop the criminal incidents, especially child abuse," Katembo said.
"Strong and legal measures will continue to be taken to ensure the region remains calm without criminal activity."
