The day before, on December 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived on a visit to the United Arab Emirates and met with President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

This was reported by Reuters.

Putin's plane was accompanied by four Su-35 fighters during the flight to the UAE.
Russia received special permission to fly from the countries whose airspace they crossed, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

And UAE Air Force planes escorted the plane carrying Putin as it entered UAE airspace.

"For the air escort of the presidential plane, special overflight permits were obtained from the states over the territory of which the flight was carried out," Peskov assured.

Mohammed bin Zayed greeted his "dear friend" and planes flew past them with the colors of the Russian flag.

Putin has limited his travel mainly to close allies since ordering the deployment of troops in Ukraine, prompting a series of international sanctions, including on oil exports.

In March, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for him on suspicion of war crimes, making it even more difficult to travel outside his country. The UAE has not joined the ICC.
