"I don't think Benavides will resign," says prosecutor Vela 3:14

(CNN Español) -- Peru's National Board of Justice issued a statement on Wednesday that it is provisionally suspending Patricia Benavides as Attorney General, the highest authority of Peru's Public Prosecutor's Office, for six months.

The National Board of Justice added that the precautionary measure of preventive suspension is issued within the framework of the immediate disciplinary procedure initiated against prosecutor Benavides, in order to ensure the normal development of the same, prevent its obstruction and guarantee the effectiveness of the final resolution of the investigations.

On 28 November, the autonomous constitutional body decided to open immediate disciplinary proceedings against the Attorney General for alleged acts relating to her inner circle.

This is an investigation of his former adviser by the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power, for the alleged crimes of criminal organization and influence peddling.

Benavides emphatically denied accusations Tuesday that she is allegedly linked to organized crime before Peru's Congress. "As a representative of all Peruvians, I want to be emphatic in clarifying that there is no criminal organization, nor do I lead a criminal organization. On the contrary, I have fought against the political use of the prosecutorial function," said prosecutor Benavides.

CNN has tried to contact prosecutor Benavides to get a reaction to the National Board of Justice's announcement of her provisional suspension without getting a response.
