Ukrainian filmmaker, ex-prisoner of the Kremlin and military Oleg Sentsov told what he thinks about the ex-chief master sergeant of the 47th brigade "Magura" Valery Marcus.
Sentsov said this in an interview with Ukrainska Pravda.
As you know, the director is currently fighting as part of the 47th Mechanized Brigade "Magura", where he is the commander of an assault company. Sentsov did not deny that he personally knew Marcus.
According to him, Marcus is "a very worthy warrior and a brave guy."
"As for where he is and what he is doing now, the question is for Valery himself. If he doesn't voice it publicly, I can't do it for him," the soldier said.
Commenting on the scandal that arose in the 47th Brigade in the summer, Sentsov said: "Valera is a great guy, but we all make mistakes. Sometimes things don't go the way you want them to, and that's totally normal."
"We need to analyze mistakes and work through all this. But it is desirable to do all this within the system, without public outings, because it does us no good in the public space, in the image and in relations. But this is his decision, the brigade treats it differently," Oleg Sentsov summed up.
Recall the scandal in the 47th Brigade
On July 11, 2023, Valerii Markus, Chief Master Sergeant of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade "Magura", known to many Ukrainians, wrote a report asking to be transferred to a lower position.
"I also declare that, in my opinion, the deputy commander of the military unit ... is an immoral degenerate, being in the same team humiliates my honor and dignity," the report says.
And although the officer's name was painted over, the Web guessed that Marcus meant Major Ivan Shalamaga.
The ex-leader of the Right Sector, the commander of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army, Dmytro Yarosh, came to Shalamaga's defense. He called the major "one of the best young commanders in the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
The commander of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Sak, responded to the accusations and called for an end to conflicts in the unit.
Instead, the chief sergeant of the attack UAV company of the 47th Mechanized Brigade, Rustam Mustafayev, accused Valery Markus of "incompetence".
On July 13, it became known that Vitaliy Averin had been appointed Chief Sergeant of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade instead of Valery Markus. After that, Marcus almost disappeared from the media field.
In September, the media wrote that after the scandal with Marcus, the commander of the 47th Brigade was changed.
