The fortifications, the construction of which was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, will help us strengthen our defense. This should be done for the winter campaign.

This was stated by military expert, veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, major of the reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksiy Hetman on the air of the telethon.

"Fortifications are not built in the same way as during the First World War, when just lines are made and concreted. That's what the Russians did. But you don't have to do it. Certain firing positions are made that simply hold a certain territory, can shoot, can repulse. That's why we will have time to do it," says Hetman.

"Many people think that we want to build concrete walls, concrete trenches. We won't have time to make them. Firstly, the Russians took up to nine months to build these fortifications. We need this in order to hold the line if the occupiers climb. President Zelensky stressed that we need to focus on this," the expert said.

He added that the conversation was about the need to involve private construction companies, they know how to do it: "Yes, we don't know what kind of people work there. Everything is fine in the engineering troops, we understand there. Anything can happen in a private construction company. It is very important to build, in addition to fortifications, either a railway or a normal road along which we will move. This is very important in defence, it is logistics."

"We are talking about the need to build fortifications for the winter campaign. The President said that the winter campaign is a new phase, and in the spring we will see. A lot of questions need to be put together and you need to figure out what to do next. I understood it in such a way that it was necessary to build fortifications in a few weeks. Here you can build these platoon strongholds, as well as company strongholds," Oleksii Hetman summed up.

To recap, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine General Valerii Zaluzhnyi announced their intention to strengthen Ukrainian defense. This is stated in the ISW report.

It is noted that Ukrainian troops will strengthen fortifications in all critical areas of the front, including the Kupyansk-Lyman line, regions in the north and west of Ukraine, as well as the Kherson region.
