The photograph released by the IDF and the Shin Bet security service shows what they said were officials of the northern Gaza Strip brigade inside a tunnel uncovered during the war, before the five commanders were eliminated, according to the source.
"During the attack on the tunnel in which a number of leaders of the terrorist organization were hiding, under civilian homes and next to the Indonesian hospital, the IDF forces eliminated the brigade commander, Ahmed al-Ghandour, the deputy commander of the brigade, Wael Rajab, and other senior commanders, including the commander of the brigade's support battalion, the head of the rocket-propelled grenade system and the reconnaissance officer in the northern Gaza Strip," the IDF and the Shin Bet said.
"IDF forces eliminated four battalion commanders belonging to the Gaza Brigade, including the commander of the Sabra battalion, the commander of the Beach Battalion, the commander of the Daraj and Tuffah battalion and the commander of the Shujaiya battalion," the statement said.
The Israeli military also released a video it said documented the deputy commander of the Northern Gaza Brigade, Wael Rajab, from inside a tunnel inside the Strip.
Earlier last week, Hamas announced the deaths of Ahmed al-Ghandour (Abu Anas), a member of the military council, Wael Rajab, Raafat Salman, and Ayman Siam.
IDF Spokesman Avichai Adraee said: "In conjunction with the liquidation of the commanders of the brigade in the northern Gaza Strip, the commander of the Beit Lahia battalion, the commander of the Central Jabalia Brigade and other terrorists in the ranks of the brigade (...) "Because of the damage to its chain of command and infrastructure, the function of a brigade brigade in the northern Gaza Strip has been significantly damaged."
"The Gaza City Brigade is the largest brigade of the Hamas terrorist organization. In Gaza City, there are numerous military sites as well as production sites and weapons depots in the heart of the civilian population. Gaza City is a prime example of Hamas's use of the civilian population as human shields.
"The IDF forces eliminated four battalion commanders belonging to the Gaza Brigade, including the commander of the Sabra battalion, the commander of the Beach Battalion, the commander of the Daraj and Tuffah battalion and the commander of the Shujaiya battalion," he said. The Sabra battalion suffered heavy losses as in addition to the battalion commander, commanders belonging to the central chain of command were liquidated and the battalion's infrastructure and headquarters were neutralized."
He concluded his post on the X platform (formerly Twitter): "In the area that was under the control of the Beach Brigade, the IDF forces took control of key strongholds. The battalion is responsible for Hamas headquarters, including the Hamas headquarters at Shifa Hospital, whose underground infrastructure has been neutralized. In addition, the brigade's anti-armor missile officer, the air system official and the naval system official were eliminated."
