Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary Dr PK Mishra on Monday visited Silkyara to take stock of the rescue operations being carried out to evacuate the stranded workers for the last two weeks. During this time, he understood the geographical location of the four-and-a-half-kilometer long under-construction tunnel through graphics presentation and mapping. Pramod Kumar Mishra understood the nuances of the rescue work going on inside the tunnel and encouraged them by talking to the officials as well as the engineers and workers engaged in this work.

On this occasion, he talked to the workers who cut the blades and shafts of the Auger machine trapped in the debris and appreciated them.

The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister inquired about the food items being sent for the workers trapped inside the tunnel. He interacted with the labourers, including Gabbar Singh, trapped inside the tunnel through the 'Audio Communication Setup' installed by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Telephonic Communication System (Telecommunication System) installed by BSNL.

He asked the workers to take care of themselves and told them that everyone is working hard in the rescue operation and work is going on on many fronts. He said that efforts are on to get everyone out soon.

Mishra also met the families of the workers trapped in the tunnel and encouraged them and said that the whole country is praying for the speedy and safe evacuation of the workers.

He said that the family has to maintain courage, the government stands with them. On November 12, a portion of the Silkyara tunnel on the Yamunotri national highway collapsed, trapping 41 workers. Rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing to bring them out.
