Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday described Mahatma Gandhi as a "great man" of the last century and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the "yugpurush" of this century. "Mahatma Gandhi freed us from the slavery of the British through Satyagraha and non-violence. India's successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi took us on the path we always wanted to go.

He was speaking at the birth anniversary celebrations of Jain thinker and philosopher Shrimad Rajchandraji. "I want to tell you one thing. Mahatma Gandhi was a great man of the last century. Narendra Modi is the icon of this century. Two great personalities - The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have one thing in common. He has reflected Shrimad Rajchandraji."

The Vice President also unveiled a mural of Shrimad Rajchandraji. Shrimad Rajchandra ji was born in Gujarat in 1867 and died in 1901. He is known for his teachings on Jainism and the spiritual guidance of Mahatma Gandhi.

"Forces opposing the development of this nation and those who cannot digest the rise of this country are coming together. Whenever something good happens in the country, these people come in a different posture. This should not happen."

"The threat is huge. The countries you see around us have a history of 300 or 500 or 700 years old, while ours is 5,000 years old," he said.

Shrimad Rajchandra Mission, Dharampur is a global movement, which strives to enhance the spiritual development of seekers and benefit the society. The international headquarters of the mission is located in Dharampur, Gujarat. The mission has several satsang centres, Shrimad Rajchandra Yuva Group and Shrimad Rajchandra Divya Sparsh Kendra.

Shrimad Rajchandraji and Mahatma Gandhi first met in Mumbai in 1891, when he (Gandhi) returned from England as a young barrister.

Dhankar was presented the 'Jankalyan-Hiteshi' award by the mission's revered Gurudev Shri Rakeshji for his contribution to social upliftment at a function in Mumbai on Monday. "Such was the greatness of Shrimad Rajchandraji that inspired both Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Dhankhar said.

At Monday's event, Shrimad Rajchandra Mission announced to organise two mega multispecialty medical camps in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra and Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, reacting to Dhankhar's remarks on Mahatma Gandhi and Narendra Modi, Bahujan Samaj Party MP Danish Ali expressed surprise on social media platform 'X': "I would like to ask the Vice President what new era has begun by giving freedom to an MP of the Prime Minister's Party (BJP) to abuse a certain community."
