Two Bulgarian citizens are among the sailors of the tanker Central Park, which was kidnapped earlier today by unknown assailants in the Gulf of Aden, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed.

The ministry also announced that it is in close coordination with the Bulgarian diplomatic missions in the region and partner institutions and clarifies all circumstances related to the incident.

A tanker linked to an Israeli company has been seized off the coast of Aden, Yemen, maritime security firm Ambrey said earlier. Yemen's Iranian-backed Houthi rebels had previously threatened to attack the tanker if it did not divert to the port of Hodeidah, it said.

New hijacked ship with Bulgarians on board

While no group has claimed responsibility so far, at least two other naval attacks have been linked to the war between Israel and Hamas in recent days.

A week ago, the Houthis captured an Israeli-linked cargo ship in the southern Red Sea. The captain and his first assistant are Bulgarian citizens, and the crew includes Ukrainians, Romanians, Mexicans and Filipinos.

The attackers seized the tanker Central Park of the operator Zodiac Maritime in the Gulf of Aden, Ambray said. A U.S. defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack.
