From now on, there is a monument in Nizhyn to the Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Matsievskyi, who was shot by the Russian occupiers for saying "Glory to Ukraine!".

This was reported by the Chernihiv Regional State Administration.

"This sculpture is the heart of the Memorial Complex to all soldiers who died in the war with the Russian occupiers. It was erected at the expense of benefactors," wrote the head of the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, Vyacheslav Chaus.

He recalled that the first monument to the indomitable Nizhyn was not erected in Ukraine. Back in September 2023, the corresponding sculpture of the figure and the last phrase of the Hero appeared on the private territory of a medical institution in the capital of Georgia at the initiative of the founder of the hospital. And also thanks to patrons.

"Now, during the full-scale invasion of Russian troops, the issue of financing Memorials or patriotic education events for budget funds is quite controversial: yes, it is definitely necessary, BUT can we afford it while the servicemen need ammunition. Rhetorically," the head said.

It will be recalled that Russian soldiers shot the captured Ukrainian Oleksandr Matsievskyi for saying "Glory to Ukraine!". In March 2023, a video of the occupiers executing the hero circulated on the Internet.

Matsievskyi was a sniper of the 163rd battalion of the 119th separate brigade of the Chernihiv region. The soldier was killed on December 30, 2022. His body was returned home in February 2023.

In April, a mural in honor of Hero Oleksandr Matsievskyi appeared in the center of Kyiv. The image was created on one of the administrative buildings of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and it is dedicated to the memory of all those who died during the war.
