The death toll from floods caused by heavy rains in Somalia has risen to 96, state news agency SONNA said on Saturday on its Twitter account, adding that the toll had been confirmed by Mahamuud Moallim, head of the country's disaster management agency.

Like the rest of eastern Africa and the Horn of Africa, Somalia has been hit by incessant heavy rains that began in October, triggered by El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole weather events.
