41 workers have been trapped inside the Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand for the last 10 days. A 24-hour rescue operation is being run to remove them, but so far the team has not been successful. Now the team is working on a new 5-point plan of rescue. Under this, horizontal drilling will be done along with vertical drilling in Silkyara and Dandalgaon. Transport Ministry Secretary Anurag Jain said, "If the American Auger did a good job and it was successful, it may take two to three days to evacuate the workers."

Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain, a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), gave this information in an exclusive conversation with NDTV. He said that the focus is on horizontal drilling to bring out the laborers trapped in the Tunnel of Uttarkashi, which will create a shaft. Excavation work has been started through American Auger.

NDMA member Lt Gen Syed Ata Hasnain said, "Help is also being taken from other different directions through the Air Force and railways. Now efforts are being made to drill from above. For this, the BRO has created a track. Horizontal excavation is also being tried from the baraut side i.e. the rear side. Blasting is being done here. Geologists are assessing it.


He said, "The incident took place on November 12. The Silkyara tunnel was being excavated from two sides. As many as 41 workers were arrested. The workers are trapped in the cabin and barkot side. The workers who are trapped are an area close to one km. There is electricity inside. A four-inch pipe is also present. Water, essential goods and compression instruments are available. Vitamin C and D have been sent. NDRF, ITBP, BRO, SDRF and all technical experts are engaged in the rescue team. Four international experts have also come.

Transport Ministry Secretary Anurag Jain told NDTV, "If The American Ocean did a good job and it was successful, it may take two to three days to evacuate the workers. If the auger is unable to cut the iron rod, then in this case we will also try to send a gas cutter. The army is working to make a side drift. It may take 2-3 days. Horizontal excavation has also been prepared."

A portion of the under-construction 12.4-km-long Silkyara tunnel on the
Brahmakhal-Yamunotri highway collapsed on November 5. Under the Chardham project, this tunnel is being built between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal and Yamunotri National Highway. The incident took place at 12 am on November 12. Soil fell up to 4 meters inside 200 meters of the tunnel's entry point. In this, 60 laborers were trapped inside. The labourers trapped inside the tunnel are from Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
