The Russian occupiers modified cluster bombs and used them for the first time against the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Donetsk region near Staromayorske on November 19.
This is stated in the analytical report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
"Russian troops launched a major airstrike with RBK-500 cluster bombs, modified for gliding, on Ukrainian positions near Staromorske. Russian military bloggers claim that this strike is the first major Russian strike on Ukraine using this weapon in a glide bomb modification," the analysts write.
Observers noted that bad weather is hampering the use of armored vehicles, particularly in western Zaporizhia Oblast, but Ukrainian forces are still attacking Russian positions with infantry units. And cluster munitions are most effective when used against infantry.
Background: The United States has stated that it is transferring depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine to protect the country from Russian invaders and is confident that Ukrainians will use it responsibly.
