A priest at the Bishopric of Stara Zagora aged 50 years has been charged by the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office with distributing pornographic materials with the participation of persons who appear to be under the age of 18, the press office of the state prosecution announced.

The man was detained by officers of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime on October 12, 2023 after he was detected distributing pornographic material. From March 2023 to October 2023, he was found to have distributed materials through mobile applications - photos and video featuring unidentified persons under the age of 18. During searches of places he occupied, a laptop and two mobile phones with photos and videos with pornographic content were seized.

The accused was detained for up to 72 hours.

Active investigative actions are carried out in the case – interviews of witnesses, inspections of material evidence. Expert reports are to be appointed, the prosecutor's office added.

The previous similar case in the region was at the end of November last year, when a 44-year-old man was detained in Haskovo as part of a national action, who was found guilty of storing and distributing photos and videos with indecent content involving children.
