The protesters are said to have gathered to demand justice for Eddie Irizari, who was shot dead by a Philadelphia police officer last month. Initial reports of vandalism near Rittenhouse Square started pouring in after 8 pm. After this, peaceful protesters dispersed in the ongoing meeting at City Hall.

However, Senior Philadelphia Police Officer John Stanford insisted that Irizari's supporters had nothing to do with Tuesday night's unrest.
