On the border with Azerbaijan, the former so-called "head of the government" of Karabakh, billionaire Ruben Vardanyan, was detained. He wanted to leave for Armenia during the mass evacuation from the region.
A message about this appeared on Vardanyan's Telegram channel on behalf of his wife Veronika Zonabend.
The woman said that Vardanyan was arrested and "captured" by the Azerbaijani authorities. Vardanyan wanted to get to the Armenian city of Goris. According to media reports, he was detained in the Lachin corridor.
The Azerbaijani Border Guard Service confirmed Vardanyan's detention by posting a photo.
It is noted that Ruben Vardanyan is a native of Yerevan, an investor and a billionaire. In September 2022, he renounced his Russian citizenship and announced his move to Nagorno-Karabakh.
As reported, on September 19, the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan made a statement about the start of "anti-terrorist measures" in Karabakh. Baku emphasized that only legitimate military targets and military infrastructure would be disabled.
Already on September 20, the "authorities" of Karabakh announced that they would cease fire and lay down their arms from 13:00 that day. In turn, Azerbaijan announced that it was completing "anti-terrorist measures".
