Russian President-dictator Vladimir Putin ordered Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to stop the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and return the initiative at the front to Russian troops.
This is stated in a recent report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
"An insider source in the Kremlin claimed that Putin allegedly gave Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu a one-month deadline until early October 2023 to improve the situation on the front line, stop Ukrainian counteroffensives, and restore the initiative to Russian troops," the statement said.
This may indicate that the Russian military command may be "ordering constant counterattacks in the hope of forcing Ukrainian counteroffensive to culminate, even at a high cost to Russian military capabilities."
Analysts suggest that Shoigu persuaded Putin to remove Mikhail Teplinsky from command of the airborne troops. This will be possible if Shoigu is able to achieve the goals of the head of the Kremlin during the counteroffensive.
As ISW previously reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine can make a significant breakthrough in the south if they can fulfill several conditions. Read more about it HERE.
