Mali's military junta expects a small delay in presidential elections scheduled for February for technical reasons, coup plotters said on Monday, promising a later date.

The first round of voting in Mali was expected to take place on February 4, 2024, and the second round two weeks later.

The junta statement said the decision to postpone the elections, which aim to return Mali to constitutional rule after the August 2020 and May 2021 military coups, was due to several factors, including a dispute with a French firm over the civil registry database.
