Indian Medical Graduates: Good news for students who have studied MBBS or are doing it. Now medical graduates will be able to do their training and practice not only in the country but also in many other countries including the US, Australia, Canada. This is due to the recognition of the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India from the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). According to a press release from the Union Health Ministry, the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India is being awarded the prestigious World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) accreditation status for a tenure of 10 years. The WFME accreditation will enable Indian medical graduates to undertake postgraduate training and practice in other countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand that need WFME accreditation, the release said.

706 Medical Colleges

Under this recognition, all the 706 existing medical colleges in the country have become WFME accredited and the new medical colleges to be set up in the coming 10 years will automatically become WFME accreditation. Due to globally recognized standards, India will become an attractive destination for international students.

Practice of medicine

The WFME accreditation will enable Indian medical graduates to undertake postgraduate training and practice in other countries that require WFME accreditation.

About Rs 351.9 crore

The WFME accreditation process includes a fee of Rs 4,98,5142 ($60,000) per medical college, covering site visit teams and their travel and accommodation expenses. This means that the total cost of getting India's 706 medical colleges to apply for WFME accreditation would be around Rs 351.9 crore ($4,23,60,000). It is known that NMC has taken the recognition of WFME, which will be applicable to all medical colleges under it.
