The Cybercrime Directorate at the General Directorate for Combatting Organized Crime (GDBOP) prevented illegal online distribution of literary works and textbooks. The operation was conducted in coordination with Europol and under the leadership of the Sofia Regional Prosecutor's Office, the press center of the Ministry of Interior announced.
Police took place yesterday. The operation prevents the illegal use of literary works and textbooks for various specialties in higher education institutions, such as objects of copyright and related rights, through the website https://www.7print.bg/.
The owner of the site was identified, distributing numerous copies of textbooks and books that were offered for sale at reduced prices, both through the site and through several copy centers on the territory of Sofia. According to the data so far, the offered literary works as objects of copyright and related rights are over 13,000. Distribution is carried out without the consent of the authors and rightholders required by law. In the course of the work, it was also clarified that by using the site, its users infected their computer systems with malware. Documents and digital devices through which the illegal retransmission took place were seized.
In view of the numerous infringements of intellectual property rights, access to the site has been suspended.
The operation was carried out in coordination with Europol within the framework of EMPACT (a programme for multidisciplinary and multi-agency operational cooperation to combat organised crime at EU level, with priority work on combating and dismantling criminal networks and criminal activities of individual entrepreneurs involved in intellectual property crimes, led by the Republic of Bulgaria).
