Judge ordered buoys removed from Rio Grande 2:27
(CNN) -- A 3-year-old boy died Wednesday as his family tried to cross the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass, according to a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities say their Marine Tactical Unit received information about a boy who was swept away by the river's current while attempting to cross the river with his family shortly after 3:30 p.m. CT (4:30 p.m. Miami time) on Wednesday.

"Officers located a three-year-old boy and transported him to shore. Medical personnel transported the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead," DPS reported.
The agency says the incident occurred north of the marine barrier in Eagle Pass.
