"We have never created such a body before. Officers with investigative functions are either in the police, i.e. under the control of the executive, or in the judiciary. We are doing something different – an independent body with investigative functions, "explained the line minister and added that he expects this to work. "We are creating sufficient incentives in the system to have an effective investigation and punishment of corruption," he said.
Slavov also commented on the topic of the powers of the Prosecutor General. The ministry did not support the long mandates of the three big ones in justice. However, instead of the current one term of 7 years, prosecutor number one can be elected for two out of 5 years. "I hope this proposal will not be supported," Slavov said.
