Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who quit the Congress three years ago, was seen sitting next to Sonia Gandhi in the Central Hall of Parliament House. Scindia was also seen interacting with the former Congress president. Sonia Gandhi was seated in the front row along with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader of the party in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury when Jyotiraditya Scindia stopped and spoke to him.
However, after some time, Scindia went to sit next to Sonia Gandhi as Kharge and Andhir Ranjan Chowdhury had to give up their seats to share the stage with Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha leaders. Scindia had quit the Congress along with 22 MLAs, leading to the fall of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh in 2020.
Members of both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha had gathered in the Central Hall to attend the farewell ceremony of the old Parliament. Dhankhar, PM Modi, Om Birla, Kharge, Andhir Ranjan Chaudhary and PU were present at the event. Goyal addressed the MPs. In her address, BJP MP Maneka Gandhi, who was earlier the Minister for Women and Child Development. She said she was proud to be a part of the moment when the government will give women an "equal share in the future of India".
In his opening remarks at the event, he said, "I am as surprised as you are to see me here."
