Ukraine will be able to break through the Russian defenses in the south and reach the borders of Crimea, after which the way will open the way for a political settlement of the war with Russia.

This opinion was expressed by the American political scientist and writer Francis Fukuyama in an interview with Dmytro Kordona.

"I'm not a visionary or a futurist, it's unlikely that these specialties exist. However, I believe that Ukraine can break through Russia's defenses in the southern part of Ukraine," he said.

Fukuyama noted that such a breakthrough of the Russian defense is very important and will take place sooner rather than later.

"As soon as that happens, and especially when Crimea is either liberated or encircled (which will make a further Russian presence there unsustainable), then I think the path to a political settlement will open up for you," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the former head of the White House, Donald Trump, to publicly present his plan of action to end the war in Ukraine.

In addition, we previously reported that the former representative of the US State Department, Kurt Volker, explained under what conditions negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv could take place.
