New York, September 20, 2023. The President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, held a meeting with His Excellency Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, within the framework of the High-Level Segment of the 78th edition of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting was propitious to verify the excellent state of bilateral relations, built on the basis of friendship and respect for more than 60 years. In addition, both sides expressed the willingness to enhance joint work in areas of mutual interest, especially health, biotechnology and energy.

Díaz Canel thanked the Algerian government for its unconditional support for the denunciation in favor of the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States and highlighted the follow-up provided to the agreements taken at the XXIII Session of the Intergovernmental Commission held in February of this year in Havana.

The Algerian president expressed his interest in raising economic and trade relations to the highest level, as Cuba represents an excellent opportunity for the business community in Algeria.

During the day, the Head of State also held bilateral meetings with Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, within the framework of the High-Level Segment of the 78th General Assembly of the United Nations. There was talk of the feelings of mutual admiration and affection between the two peoples, also of cooperation.

With Ahmed bin Aqeel Alkhateeb, Minister of Tourism of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Saudi Fund for Development.

And with Sultan AhmedAl Jaber, from the United Arab Emirates and president-designate of the Climate Summit (Cop28), on the same day as his participation in the Climate Ambition Summit.
