Citing heatwaves, fires, floods and droughts that have hit various parts of the planet in recent months, Biden called for a reduction in dependence on fossil fuels.
"These events show what awaits us if we fail to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and adapt our world to climate change," he said.
Biden urged world leaders to side with Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.
"Russia believes that the world will get tired and allow it to commit aggression in Ukraine without consequences. If we allow Ukraine to be divided, will the independence of any country be safe at all?"
"The United Nations must continue to preserve peace, prevent conflict, and alleviate human suffering," Biden said.
The US president added that his country would support an expansion of the Security Council, increasing the number of permanent and non-permanent members.
