German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok has called on Azerbaijan to immediately cease hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"Azerbaijan must stop shelling immediately and return to the negotiating table," Berbok said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. "The most important thing is to protect the civilians in Nagorno-Karabakh. This is also the work of the Russian soldiers there," she added.
Lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan can only be achieved through dialogue, she said, adding that Berlin supports the negotiations led by the European Union.

"Given today's escalation, they (negotiations) are more important than ever," Berbok said.
Baku began this morning a large-scale military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is located on the territory of Azerbaijan, but the majority of its inhabitants are Armenians.
