President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy intends to personally meet with the Brazilian leader. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Zelensky are scheduled to hold talks in New York on Wednesday, September 20.
This was reported by two sources in the Brazilian government, writes The Guardian.
According to the source, Lula "irritates some Western leaders who support Ukraine's fight against Russia with his rejection of a neutral position."
"The Brazilian president is trying to position himself as a potential peace mediator between Moscow and Kyiv, arguing that some countries must remain 'neutral' if we want to achieve peace," the newspaper writes.
Meanwhile, the presidents are due to meet in New York, at the hotel where Lula da Silva will stay.
The President of Ukraine has never met with the President of Brazil in person, despite the fact that the leaders of the countries attended the G20 summit in Hiroshima in May 2023.
