South Korea will provide Ukraine with two K600 Rhino vehicles to break through minefields.

This was reported by the South Korean edition of The Chosun Ilbo.

South Korea has not yet provided Ukraine with any lethal weapons. Although not considered a lethal weapon, the K600 Rhino vehicles are the most combat equipment that Ukraine has received from Seoul.

"Recently, the government (of South Korea. – Ed.) decided to send two minesweepers to Ukraine as soon as possible in addition to the previous batch of old mine detectors. This happened after an urgent request and promise by President Yoon Suk-yeol to support Ukraine," the publication said.

Seoul made this decision after North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, during which both sides are believed to have entered into arms agreements.

Fearing the Kremlin's reaction, the South Korean government will ask Ukraine to use the vehicles only for humanitarian operations.

What is known about the K600 Rhino

Defence-ua notes that the basis for the K600 Rhino is the South Korean K1 tank, which is essentially a local copy of the American M1 Abrams MBT, but with elements of its own localization.

The K600 Rhino first entered service with South Korea in 2020 and is equipped with the latest mine detection and demining equipment.

Earlier it was reported that South Korea would provide Ukraine with $2.3 billion for reconstruction.

At the end of May 2023, the WSJ reported that South Korea would transfer hundreds of thousands of artillery shells to Ukraine through the United States. It is not yet known whether Ukraine received these shells.
