A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy shot in his patrol car Saturday night in Palmdale died from his wounds, and an investigation into the killing is underway and an unknown gunman is being sought, for which all police resources in the county have been deployed.
Thirty-year-old sheriff's deputy, Ryan Klinkenbrumer, was taken to hospital where he died of his wounds, Sheriff Robert Luna told a news conference yesterday.
A preliminary investigation indicates that Klinkenbrumer was conducting patrols when he was shot around 18 p.m. local time on Saturday, Luna said.
The sheriff's deputy was found unconscious in his car at the intersection between Sierra Highway and Avenue Q by a man Luna described as a "Good Samaritan" who notified Palmdale police.
Klinkenbrummer was taken to Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancester, where he was dealt with a gunshot wound and given medical attention.
"Despite the efforts of doctors to save his life, it is most regrettable that the sheriff's deputy died from his wounds," Luna said.
