In Odesa, a military official was detained who demanded kickbacks in the amount of UAH 400,<> for the construction of barracks for those mobilized to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, the corruption scheme was exposed in the Odessa military housing and maintenance department. There, officials regularly demanded kickbacks for the execution of work.

"Officials regularly demanded kickbacks from contractors who carried out state orders for repair work at the facilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Odesa region. The fact of extortion by the head of the defense housing and maintenance department for more than 400 thousand rubles was documented. UAH from representatives of the local repair and construction company", – stated in the message.

According to the investigation, the amount of kickback was 20% of the amount of the state order. The suspect received a bribe through the mediation of his subordinate, who was detained red-handed.

"In addition, the criminal activity of another participant in the scheme – the head of an affiliated commercial structure – was documented. Through controlled firms, the merchant brought into the shadows and subsequently converted into cash the money he allegedly received for performing repair work at military facilities," the SBU said.

During the searches, the SBU found evidence of criminal activity of military officials. The intermediary who received the money was given a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official).

"An investigation is underway to bring to justice the head of the military housing and maintenance department and the head of the commercial structure involved in the scheme," the statement said.

The suspected soldiers face up to 10 years in prison.

To recap, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional CCC and SP. During the war, he managed to acquire property for more than 350 thousand dollars.
